Geneva postal workers protest

Rush hour traffic in Geneva was even more snarled than usual on Thursday morning as Swiss Post van drivers protested against a restructuring plan by driving slowly in cavalcade through city centre streets.

Between 30 and 40 vans traversed some of the city’s main thoroughfares, including the Mont Blanc bridge, causing traffic jams in the process.

The drivers were demonstrating over plans to eliminate 100 full-time jobs from the post office’s PostLogistik division, including 30 in Geneva.

A further 300 part-time jobs in the division are set to be eliminated, affecting delivery employees in Geneva, Basel, Zurich, Wintherthur, Olten and Aarau.
