Officials called off the opening yachting race of the 33rd America's Cup between Alinghi and BMW Oracle in Valencia on Monday.
Unstable weather conditions meant that the competitors were forced to wait for nearly four hours before they were informed that the race could not go ahead.
Alinghi defends sport's oldest trophy against their American challengers over a three-match series.
The next race is scheduled for Wednesday.
