Expedia, the leading global online travel service, announced on Thursday that it is transferring its hosting division headquarters to Geneva.

The new setup will be operational this summer creating more than 40 jobs, the company said in a press release.

"This relocation will enable Expedia to expand its global leadership position while expanding its roots in Europe," said Matthew Crummack, who be in charge of the new headquarters.

"Geneva is the ideal place for our offices," Crummack said.

"Located in the heart of Europe, the city benefits from recognized professional skills in the field of hospitality and culture and displays a multinational background all backed by a vibrant economy."

"Geneva is very pleased to welcome a leader in the travel industry such as Expedia," said Pierre-François Unger, cantonal minister or economy and health.
